The letter for today is G and as always the prepared student, I have no idea what G stands for.
I'm going to guess goofy.
Nope, wrong!
According to Alexandra Delis-Abrams, Ph.D. in ABC Feelings: A Learning/Coloring Book, G stands for generous.
"Can you think of a time when you felt generous?
"I bet you felt you were sharing something that was special to you. Did you feel, right then, that your heart was super-big?"
(a re-run picture from winter)
Well, perhaps I was generous today when Dandu and Toothy -
(back when P'Headro was a puppy)
(I think I renamed her, but I can't remember to what) -
came over after looking for apartments in River City.
(Yes, they will be leaving our fair Gold Rush town and going off in search of better community colleges. I am sad they are leaving, but they won't be all that far away.)
Anywho, they came over to get some laundry Dandu left behind.
I was hungry, they were hungry, and I did not not have much to offer from the kitchen of Casa de Refugio.
(another re-run photo)
And even though I have a finite amount of money - I offered to take them out.
We ended up going to Chevy's (Fresh Tex-Mex) with a newspaper coupon - got 8 items and 3 margaritas (not to mention their wonderful salsa and chips) all for $27. I even had enough food to take home to Hold-See.
It was a delightful surprise to get so much for so little.
Dandu put down a $5 for the waitress and I matched it - so she got a $10 tip.
Generosity all around!
Chevy's was generous with their newspaper coupon and $3 margarita Wednesday, I was generous in taking us all out and Dandu and I were generous with the waitress.
Win-win-win-win.
Morale of the story -
Generosity pays off and $3 margaritas taste as good as $7.50 ones!
"Can you think of a time when you felt generous? .....
What other feeling can you think of that start with the letter G?"
I'm not very generous. I tip well but as far as giving my money away, I don't do it.
ReplyDeleteGoofy, yes that I am, I use to be the class clown. Getting in trouble with a teacher was well worth it to me if I could make the whole class laugh. I guess that could be twisted around to sound generous but its a bit of a stretch.
thanks for chiming in, texla! i give my money away all the time - i am a fool, i know.
ReplyDeleteand i do believe you can make a case for goofy being generous. a good laugh is a great thing to give others. :-)
Generous. Let me see... I remember letting my father talk me into giving my old bike to a poor boy who didn't have one. It was an awesome bike with high rise handlebars and a comfy banana seat. Anyway, I did and got a brand new ten-speed from my Dad, but it wasn't anywhere near as sweet as my old one.
ReplyDeleteI found out later that the boy had taken my beloved bike apart and it was lying in pieces in his yard. Turns out, the reason he didn't have a bike was that he had destroyed his old bike too.
I'm more careful about whom I share my generosity with nowadays.
cube - wow! i am speechless - so to speak!
ReplyDeleteFather did not know best, in this case.
I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved bike. (My beloved first bike was stolen, and my ten speed was nowhere near as good.)
thank you, too, for chiming in!
Feeling generous is one the best feelings. I can't always afford to be as generous as I'd like financially, so I try to be generous in spirit by, say, giving someone the benefit of the doubt.
ReplyDeleteI can get pretty goofy and giggly and even gruesome at times :-)
gallant? hmm... is generous a feeling or an action? I try try to be generous in material and non-material goods. Most recently we gave the day laborers much more than their supposed hourly wage. it only made sense.
ReplyDeletelaura - giving the benefit of the doubt is indeed generous and it costs nothing! good job! goofy, giggly, gruesome! excellent!
ReplyDeleteno regrets - gallant! indeed. and paying day laborers more than the agreed wage is absolutely generous! good work! and thanks for commenting and welcome to california! i hope that it is all you hoped for and more!
ReplyDeleteHi - I'm not sure what I hoped for , which is good, because it's always more! :-)
ReplyDeleteHere's to more than you hoped for!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's weird isn't it the feelings we carry around with us as adults regarding our bikes. I'm still not over how I lost my old bike, and my eldest daughter, who had her first bike stolen, and years later is still angry about her loss.
ReplyDeletecube - I loved riding my bike. I felt so free! I could go where I wanted, when I wanted. Sorta like I feel about my car now, but my bike, it was special!
